A Tale of Opportunities

I am always proud to share the well-deserving stories in our road to promotion stories. Today’s story is about Shelli Alstat, who started as a part-time collector and is now a Manager, Operations. Shelli has been with CBE for over 16 years.

We interviewed Shelli and this is what she had to say:

career-path-shelli-08Why do you stay at CBE?
I stay at CBE because of the people. I have the opportunity to work alongside so many talented individuals who challenge me to be a better version of myself each day. I have become very close to so many people and have developed strong friendships that make it easy to come to work and not feel like it is “work”.

Why did you join CBE?
When I joined CBE I was a single mom and I was already working a full-time job at a daycare. I really just needed to supplement my income so I could make ends meet.  The position that was available was part-time nights so it did not interfere with the job I already had. Little did I know that I would turn that small, part-time, 15 hours a week, “job” into a career that I still love after 16 ½ years!

What have you learned while working at CBE?
Gosh, what have I not learned at CBE!? I started here when I was 19 years old and really didn’t have much life experience at that point. CBE has offered me so many great opportunities to grow as a person both for the benefit of my work life and my personal life. The one area that has had the biggest impact on my life is learning and developing leadership skills. I have been able to develop my skills in dealing with other people, whether that is in a team setting or one on one. I have learned that a true leader is someone who leads by example, is willing to go first and is both humble and transparent. I have also learned that it is okay to make mistakes as long as you are willing to take accountability and learn from them.

Where do you see the company going over the next five years? What is your role in getting there?
CBE will definitely be expanding over the next few years with recently awarded contracts. I see my role in getting there to be two-fold. On one side I need to keep pushing my current department to be the best that they can be and continue to be in the top rankings for our client. I also feel that as we get new clients and new contracts I will be diligently working to build our bench strength so that we have people ready to step up when the right opportunities come along for them.
