A Tale of Changes and Challenge

We are continuing to tell the amazing stories of CBE employees and the road they’ve traveled as they’ve been with our company. Today’s story is about Matt Matthias, who has been at CBE for 12 years. Matt has worn many hats as he’s grown in Operations. Those roles paved the path to his current position of Senior Director of Government Services.

We interviewed Matt and this is what he had to say:A Tale of Changes and Challenge

Why do you stay at CBE?
I enjoy the ever changing environment. Each day, month, even year has been different since I have been here.  Change is exciting to me and even difficult changes will turn into something positive if you give it time.  CBE offers lots of opportunity to learn and do new things. I also truly enjoy the people I work with every day. I have been blessed to work for some great individuals that have taught me a lot and have some amazing teams working with me —makes my job a lot easier.

Why did you join CBE?
I was moving back into the Cedar Valley at the time, my good friend Brandon Medlin encouraged me to apply since I had previous collection experience. At the time I just needed a job, but I learned quickly this could be a career. I liked the challenge I had each day and was able to branch out into different departments and utilize my strengths.

What have you learned while working at CBE?
I have officially been here for one-third of my life so I would say I have learned a lot. I have worked with many people over the years and each one has taught me what it means to be a good leader and person. I have learned that the people around me are great assets and help me be who I am each day. If it weren’t for all of those I have worked with, I would not be nearly as effective. I have also learned a lot about the “big picture” and have a better understanding of the collections industry.

Where do you see the company going over the next five years? What is your role in getting there?
Over the next five years I believe CBE will continue to see some huge advancements in the government space. The next five years could easily be the best five years this company has seen. My role in this would be ensuring we have the people and the leaders prepared to dominate this space so that growth is an option as well as pushing my current contracts to be the very best so we can see additional growth and opportunity within CBE.

Anything else you want to add?
I would like to offer advice to associates reading this: You can see I started as an associate and worked my way up. If you choose to apply yourself and focus on the job at hand your overall influence will grow. There is a lot of opportunity coming, this can be a scary time but overall a very fun time.
